Dave Conord, "Put Your Oars Back in the water" , Co-President, U.S. Growth at eXp Realty.

Dave Conord is my counterpart as President of eXp US. He is someone I have the great pleasure of working with on a daily basis. We both motivate each other to help the company reach even greater heights. He is truly one of the best mentors I know of for agents, and he was very gracious with his advice during our conversation.

Dave's candor was incredibly appreciated, and he shared a very personal story of his year-long road to recovery after a severe boating accident. His five key lessons were:

1) Allow others to help. "We cannot go where we want to go by ourselves."

2) " I learned what I was made of" -- He recounted the story of the carrot, egg, and coffee bean in boiling water. The carrot in boiling water starts hard but turns soft; the egg begins soft and ends up hard. However, the coffee bean changes the water, and both become better.

3) Truly appreciated what's little vs. what is big. Your Perspective changes.

4) "It improved me as a human being."

5) "I learned to take chances."

Now, you don't have to have a near-death experience to be able to learn from these lessons. Dave shares my strong belief that to get what you want in life, you have to help others get what they want. Be the "Go-Giver.".

When I asked him what advice he would give someone entering the business today, his five answers were evidence of how much he truly cares about agents:

1) Serve others (don't have commission breath" -- if you are doing the transaction because of the commission you are going to receive, it's going to be evident, and you will come across as insincere.

2) As he said from his boating accident, his second piece of advice is "ask for help."

3) Leverage systems. If you find yourself doing something more than once, find an automated system to do it moving forward. You don't want to do it for the first time every time.

4) Treat it like a business. As an independent contractor, you are the CEO of your own business. Act that way.

5) Know your end game. What is your exit strategy?

Dave is a true inspiration in our industry, and it was an honor to have this conversation with him.
